Can Zoloft Raise Cholesterol Levels?
Can Zoloft raise cholesterol levels? For those of you who take Zoloft have to know about these recent developments regarding the drug. Zoloft is manufactured by Pfizer; Its generic name is Sertraline Hydrochloride. Zoloft is usually prescribed to patients suffering from severe depression. It has also been used to Obsessive-compulsive disorders, social anxiety and panic attacks. It is probably the most effective drug in treating these disorders.
The side effects of Zoloft are known to be not so minor; patients taking Zoloft may experience nausea, insomnia, diarrhea, and sexual side effects. However, there is one side effect Pfizer failed to mention: rise in cholesterol levels. Perhaps it was never mentioned because high cholesterol is practically unnoticeable. This may not affect many people seriously, but for those where high cholesterol can become deadly. In today’s world, high cholesterol is on the rise. This mainly due to the increase in inactive people and to the diets we eat. Today’s diets are becoming unhealthy, more processed, and also bigger. High cholesterol is not serious itself, yet it does lead to more complications which can be life threatening. Excess cholesterol is stored within the arteries. After a prolonged period of time, the storage can eventually block the flow of blood to the body, mainly the heart and the brain. This causes heart attacks and strokes.
Recently Zoloft is starting to show connections to raising cholesterol levels. Although these findings are still new, there is not enough information out there as tests are still being conducted. It was found that sertraline, which is what makes up Zoloft, has caused increases in cholesterol levels in patients. It has also been linked to raise mainly the LDL cholesterol levels which are the most harmful kind to the body. For those who have high cholesterol levels, it is advisable to not take any drugs similar to Zoloft; at least not until more information and studies can be done.
It is a real concern to know about drugs such as Zoloft. It originally had nothing to do with high cholesterol since it was applied for different uses. These findings however should alarm everyone. If you do not need to take Zoloft, perhaps it is best to redirect your attentions to other things to keep you from your depressed state. Insomnia question?
I’ve had sleep problems for 3 months solid now with no let up. Had various blood tests all normal. I have just found a sleep help web site and it states that drinking alcohol can actually cause insomnia. I never thought this could be the cause of my problems, I normally have between 1-3 glasses of wine a night (thinking alcohol helped me sleep!). I guess up to 3 glasses is too much, but normally have between 1-2 a day, it depends how stressed work and the children have made me. I didn’t for one minute think this would cause the sleep problem. People I have spoken to have always said “have a glass of wine, that’ll help you sleep”!!! Has anyone else experienced this and if so, by cutting it out completely, have you slept better?
Birth control pill question, women only please!!?
I am 32 and have been on Birth control pills for about two years now to help symptoms of perimenopause(hot flashes, anxiety, insomnia)I have three kids.I have never missed apill the entire time I have taken them,I take them at approximately the same time every night, and have had my withdrawel bleed every sugar pill week.My question is,and please don’t think I am stupid, could I still get pregnant??Even with the bleeding on the week off?The reason I ask is that for the past month I have felt odd,I had some nausea, more emotional, and have a bit of weight gain around my middle.Everything in me says I am not pregnant-that it is just the perimenopause, but is it even possible. If I keep feeling this way I am going to go take a pregnancy test, but I just feel silly even thinking about it.Respectful kind answers only please.GOD-bless——Oh and can BCP make you feel pregnant?
